How It All Began
The BackaBuddy journey began in 2008 with founder Sue Peiser and her husband, the late Allan Beuthin, whose vision was to empower local communities through peer-to-peer giving. Following Allan’s passing in 2015, crowdfunding pioneer Patrick Schofield took up the mantle and invited Catherine Du Plooy to join him. Together, they grew BackaBuddy into a powerhouse for social good across Africa. “As a platform, BackaBuddy allows communities to come together to support people and causes they believe in — regardless of differences.
