About
Africa Food for Thought (AFFT) is a volunteer‑driven non‑profit organisation based in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, South Africa, working to bring lasting food security and support to vulnerable children and families across the West Rand of Johannesburg since 2006. AFFT’s mission is to ensure that no child has to learn or play on an empty stomach, because good nutrition is essential for health, school attendance and cognitive development.
Today, AFFT provides daily nutritious meals to over 2,700 children in 57 preschool programmes and 3 school feeding projects, helping improve nutrition, concentration and school attendance. In addition to these core feeding programmes, AFFT supports community projects, early childhood development centres, and families caring for orphaned and vulnerable children by supplying monthly food parcels and wrap‑around assistance.
AFFT’s work is built on partnership: it equips and supplies local crèches, schools and families while encouraging community ownership and volunteer involvement. Through this collaborative model, AFFT not only fights hunger but also fosters resilience and opportunity for children and households facing hardship.
