ACVV Khayalethu Child and Youth Care Centre is a registered residential care facility providing a safe, nurturing home for vulnerable boys, from early childhood through to young adulthood. More than a place of care, Khayalethu is a place of belonging — where boys are seen, supported and encouraged to grow into confident, capable young men.
Located in Gqeberha, the Centre offers a stable environment for boys who cannot remain in their family homes, many of whom have experienced trauma, neglect or loss. At Khayalethu, care goes beyond meeting basic needs; it focuses on healing, dignity and long-term development.
To provide vulnerable boys with a safe, supportive and structured environment where they can heal, grow and thrive — and to equip them with the life skills, education and opportunities needed to transition successfully into independent adulthood.
The word Khayalethu means “Our Home” — a name that reflects both the spirit and purpose of the Centre.
Established under the ACVV, Khayalethu was created in response to the growing need for quality, child-centred residential care. Over the years, it has evolved into a holistic care environment that supports boys not only through childhood, but right through to independence.
As the boys grow, so does the support around them. In addition to residential care, Khayalethu runs a dedicated K2 Independent Living Programme for older youths, focusing on life skills, work readiness, further education and emotional resilience. From learning how to manage a bank account to securing their first job, the programme ensures that no young man leaves the Centre unprepared for life beyond its gates.
Through the commitment of caregivers, social workers, volunteers, donors and community partners, Khayalethu continues to be a place where boys are given more than shelter — they are given hope, guidance and the chance to build a future they can be proud of.
