Benjamin Generation is a registered non-profit organization (NPO), PBO, CYCC and ECD Centre, the CYCC was founded in 2014 to care for and protect orphaned, abused, neglected and vulnerable children that are typically placed with us by Social Workers from the Department of Social Development and other organizations like Child Welfare, the SAVF and the Police.  Benjamin Generation is a safe haven for these children in their greatest time of need. Benjamin Generation has since its inception diversified into other areas as an organization. These are our main focus areas namely the main children’s home which was established first, here children from walking age to 18 years old are cared for, a baby home -caring for babies from new-born to the walking stage and a school which is providing schooling for our children and from the community. Benjamin Generation is based in New Hanover KZN South Africa, which is a farming community and we are situated next to an informal settlement.  We build into this local community as much as possible by providing employment and uplifting the community at every opportunity that we may be given, such as training, clothing and food. Benjamin Generation is in the fortunate position of being situated on a lovely small holding, with numerous buildings and sprawling grounds which gives us the opportunity to expand on what we are doing already and gives the children lots of freedom to explore and get some fresh country air. Benjamin Generation is managed/run by husband-and-wife team of Rowen and Vanessa Wortmann and Lyn Warr.  Rowen, Vanessa and Lyn manage all facets of this organization and are overseen by the Benjamin Generation board. They work in conjunction with the staff members who are the backbone of this organization. Along with their staff members Rowen, Vanessa and Lyn have a deep desire to protect and care for and educate the most vulnerable children in our society. The main Place of Safety for the older children consists of a large Victorian home where the toddlers and older children live and the baby home is a newly extended home just footsteps away from the main house. The children and babies that are placed in our care come from varying backgrounds and we care for them for 1 day to up to a couple of years. Some of the children come from the most awful situations, we give them the love and the support that they need during the horrifying times in their lives. In developing countries, low-quality early learning can be a life sentence that perpetuates poverty and inequality. Children who don’t have access to high quality early learning are being left behind. Nationally in South Africa, only 29% of children under 6 are on track to meet their developmental milestones. Children from low-income households are at the greatest risk due to lack of access to quality early learning opportunities. With this in mind we decided to open a pre-school, and it is now in full operation, and we currently have 101 children attending grades RRRR, RRR, RR, and grade R. Benjamin Generation Child Care Centre is totally reliant on the support of individuals, trusts, churches and business to keep it in operation. We do not receive governmental funding for the children in our care or in our school and will not for the foreseeable future, even though we have tried our best to change this.  Benjamin Generation followers all requirements of NPO’s and PBO’s in South Africa, our finances and all accounting work is done by an independent accounting firm. We are able to supply individuals and companies with a section 18A certificate for your donation. And for larger companies we are able to supply you with all B-BBEE documentation.
