The Angel Network was founded in November 2015 in response to the urgent and growing needs of those with so little. What began as a small act of compassion has grown into a powerful movement of hope and humanity, one that reaches across South Africa and beyond.
Operating primarily in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape, with fundraising branches in Sydney, Australia, and Memphis, USA, The Angel Network has become a lifeline for thousands. Our mission has always been simple yet profound, to offer a hand up, not a handout, empowering individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable futures.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when millions faced hunger and despair, our focus turned to emergency relief. Between May 2020 and December 2021, we distributed over 20 million meals across all nine provinces of South Africa, a testament to the power of collective kindness. In recognition of this impact, The Angel Network received a Humanitarian Award in November 2021.
Over the years, our work has touched lives in countless ways:
- We’ve established a bakery and sewing academy, giving women the skills and confidence to earn a living.
- Each Mandela Day, we’ve constructed fully furnished aluminium homes, restoring dignity and hope to families in need. To date we have built 90 homes.
- We’ve cleared historical debt for dozens of students, now thriving as doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers and engineers.
- In times of crisis, we’ve rebuilt homes destroyed by floods and fires and provided food and shelter during the 2021 unrest.
- We have provided 30 million meals.
- Enabled life-saving heart surgeries for 30 babies.
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, our vision remains steadfast: to move beyond immediate relief towards sustainable upliftment, transforming lives, families, and communities for generations to come.
From raising R1 million annually in our early years to over R41 million during the pandemic, our growth has been fuelled entirely by the generosity of individuals, corporates, and our incredible community of supporters. We receive no government funding and keep our operational costs low through a dedicated team of staff and volunteers driven by passion and purpose.
Registered as both an NPO and PBO in South Africa, The Angel Network is authorised to issue Section 18A tax certificates, with similar benefits through our branches in Australia and the USA.
Throughout the year, we bring people together through events that celebrate compassion and community, from comedy nights and golf days to Mandela Day builds, Women’s Day celebrations, and theatre evenings.
What started with small gestures, a blanket, a pair of school shoes, a box of Christmas joy, has become a national force for good. Today, The Angel Network stands as proof that when people come together with love and purpose, we can rebuild communities, restore dignity, and change lives, one act of kindness at a time.
