Members of Lions Clubs International support Eight Pillars of Service - Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Disaster Relief, Environment, Humanitarian, Hunger, Vision and Youth. At Milnerton Lions, we address all of these causes:
  • HUNGER - We have a weekly hunger relief program supporting community kitchens attached to Early Childhood Development Centres, feeding over 600 children daily. Projects 4 People is a registered PBO and can issue Section 18a certificates
  • DIABETES Regular screenings are held, with information being shared about the dangers of uncontrolled blood sugar
  • YOUTH Every year, we run a Back to School campaign to collect school supplies for children in need. Children are also celebrated at our annual Youth Day party and at Christmas.
  • CHILDHOOD CANCER We hold a Big Walk for Young Warriors every year in February to raise awareness, and also bake Cupcakes of Hope in September
  • DISASTER RELIEF Our clubhouse is a registered Disaster Relief Centre, and we have the facility to cook and supply meals in times of need. We respond within hours of a disaster and assist as needed.
  • ENVIRONMENT Regular beach cleanups, tree planting and assisting at the local penguin rescue organisation are just some of the causes we support
  • HUMANITARIAN The local residential facility for intellectually disabled adults call on us when needed to assist. We also give time to the home for physically disabled adults - running a stall at their annual market and assisting monthly with self-care projects.
  • VISION - through the Lions Brightsight, we are able to assist indigent members of the community to obtain spectacles at a minimal cost. We also collect and send used spectacle frames to Brightsight for recycling
