Clubfoot is a common but treatable condition when addressed early, yet many families face barriers to access, information, and ongoing care. In South Africa, 1 in 500 children is born with clubfoot. At least 2,000 babies every year start life at risk of permanent disability because they live far from specialist care and cannot access early, effective treatment. Our vision is that every child born with clubfoot has access to effective treatment for the best chance of a healthy and productive life. Our mission is to improve the lives of children born with clubfoot and prevent disability. We partner with a national network of 48 specialist clinics in the South African state health sector to bridge gaps in resources and strengthen successful treatment outcomes. We provide sustainable support that transforms a child’s future by giving them mobility and the opportunity to access education and make a living. Steps Clubfoot Care is dedicated to ensuring that children born with clubfoot have the support they need to walk, play, and live without disability. We work in close partnership with public clinics and healthcare professionals to support children throughout their full four-year treatment journey using the Ponseti Method, the gold standard of care worldwide. Our work is built on four pillars: Training health professionals, Clubfoot clinic support, Clubfoot advocacy, and Clubfoot brace distribution. Through these pillars, Steps strengthens healthcare systems, supports families, and helps ensure treatment remains consistent from the first cast to walking confidently. By reducing stigma, improving early referral, and ensuring access to essential braces, children are given the chance to grow with confidence, attend school, and participate fully in their communities. Every child’s journey ends with a meaningful moment when treatment is completed, and a graduation certificate is presented. It is a celebration shared by the child, their family, and the clinic team, and a powerful reminder that with the right care and support, lives can truly change.
