Empowering Young Storytellers

A Journalism Education Initiative by SJ47 Journalism Workshop NPC

The Challenge

Learners consume media constantly yet often lack the skills to analyse information critically, identify misinformation and communicate responsibly. This limits their voices, how they use it, especially in communities like Mitchells’ Plain, Retreat and Plumstead.

Our Approach

SJ47 NPC (Reg. 2025/867112/08) offers a practical journalism course designed for high school learners, focusing on:
  • Mentorship from experienced journalists.
  • Ethical reporting: fact-checking, bias awareness, responsible storytelling.
  • Real-world application through school and community publications.
  • Proven success through our Portland High School pilot project.

The Outcome

Learners become confident, ethical and informed storytellers who think critically, write with purpose and engage meaningfully in their communities.
