At Breadline Africa, we believe that every child deserves a safe place to dream, play and learn. For over 30 years, we have worked alongside communities across South Africa to transform early childhood development through partnerships, infrastructure and compassion. Our story is rooted in action, replacing unsafe pit toilets, building classrooms, kitchens and libraries and helping lay the physical foundations for brighter futures. But our work goes beyond infrastructure. It’s about unlocking potential, restoring dignity and opening doors for children to grow into the leaders, teachers and changemakers of tomorrow. Our efforts align with South Africa’s National Development Plan, the Nurturing Care Framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our approach is collaborative, community-led and informed by evidence. We believe the most powerful change happens when we listen deeply, partner with intent and act with the heart. This is more than development, it is a movement to help build the future - one child, one school, one safe and joyful space at a time.

- Investing in educational infrastructure: By building classrooms, libraries, toilets, kitchens and more, we create safe, nurturing spaces that shape young minds during their most formative years. By investing in the development of children today, we’re building the foundation for a brighter, more secure future for South Africa.
- The pit toilet crisis: We replace unsafe pit toilets with clean, hygienic, and environmentally friendly waterless and flushing solutions in schools across South Africa.
- Seaside initiative: Every December, we create irreplaceable memories for young children by arranging educational seaside excursions, giving many children the chance to experience the ocean for the very first time.
- Feeding programmes: A nourished child is a thriving child. Through pre-school meals, feeding kitchens, and food parcel distribution, we ensure children receive the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
