About
African Angels School is a community-rooted primary school based in Chintsa East, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The school provides children from low-income households with access to a holistic, high-quality education that is grounded in strong academics, emotional wellbeing, and character development.
African Angels exists to ensure that where a child is born does not determine their future. Through small classes, committed teachers, and a nurturing learning environment, the school focuses on building solid foundations in literacy, numeracy, and executive functioning, fostering confidence, resilience, and curiosity. Education at African Angels is rigorous, relational, and deeply human.
We exist to serve our children and to partner with our parents in the education of their child(ren).
Our Mission is to enable each child to reach their full potential and grow into fine South African citizens
Our Story
African Angels was founded in 2012, in response to the stark educational inequality facing children in our area. In Chintsa East, many children begin school already at a disadvantage, with limited access to early learning, overcrowded classrooms, and no opportunity for individual support.
We started our school with 28 children and now it has grown into a thriving school that places children at the centre of everything we do. From the earliest grades, African Angels prioritises strong reading, writing, and numeracy skills, knowing these are the gateways to lifelong learning. Equal attention is given to social and emotional development, helping children build self-belief, perseverance, and a sense of belonging.
Our values are curiosity, resilience, courage, ownership, collaboration, and reflection.
We work closely with families, staff, volunteers, and sponsors and donor partners, creating a supportive environment around each child. Over the years, African Angels learners have gone on to excel academically, to access high-quality secondary education, and live futures that once felt impossible.
African Angels is more than a school. It is a community committed to helping children shape different futures for themselves, their families, their community and South Africa.
