Addiction Recovery Programmes

Healing Wings South Africa is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation and recovery of individuals affected by substance dependency and related behavioural challenges. With over 25 years of experience and 3 Centres across the country, we are recognised as one of South Africa’s leading recovery organisations.

At Healing Wings South Africa, we acknowledge the complex and multi-faceted nature of addiction, as well as its profound impact on individuals, families, and communities. Our programmes are grounded in evidence-based therapeutic approaches and are designed to address a broad spectrum of challenges, including substance abuse, gambling, pornography, eating disorders, self-harm, and other behavioural concerns. Behind many of these addictions are deeper challenges such as trauma, anxiety and depression, yet stigma still prevents many people from seeking help. Of even more concern, is the growing addiction rate within our youth (under 18 years of age). When these young people arrive, many are frightened and overwhelmed, carrying far more emotional weight than any child should have to bear; some of whom, are as young as 12 years old. Their families often arrive exhausted and heartbroken, unsure where to turn. The first step is simply helping them feel safe again — and slowly, we begin to see something extraordinary: a young person rediscovering hope.

Our Centres:

1. St Georges Youth Centre for Girls (Johannesburg, Gauteng):
Specifically designed for adolescent girls, this Centre offers a 3-month residential programme addressing addiction, eating disorders, self-harm, and other behavioural difficulties. While St Georges does not offer schooling, residents are given time in their morning to continue with their own external schooling if/as managed by their family and the school, within a nurturing, family-oriented setting that promotes stability, accountability and emotional well-being. 2. Healing Wings Sudwala (Mpumalanga):
This facility comprises two registered programmes under the Department of Social Development—one for adults (minimum 6 months) and one for adolescents (minimum 9 months). The Youth Centre includes Purpose College, an on-site school registered with the Department of Education, accommodating learners from Grades 4 to 12. Set in the tranquil Sudwala Valley, this Centre provides a structured, supportive environment conducive to lasting recovery and personal development. 3. Pelgrims Place (Paternoster, Western Cape):
Located along the scenic West Coast, this Centre serves adult males in a 6-month minimum programme, focused on recovery from substance abuse and associated behavioural challenges. The serene coastal setting supports our holistic approach, encouraging reflection, personal growth and the development of sustainable coping mechanisms.
