Môreson… …is a Non-profit Organisation and a registered Child and Youth Care Centre with the Department of Social Development. The Centre is registered to care for 100 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. Currently, around 80% of the occupants are of African or Coloured descent. The children residing at Môreson are placed according to the Children’s Act, no. 38 of 2005. An external social worker investigates the circumstances of the child, and if the Children’s Court finds the child to be a victim of some form of physical and emotional neglect, abuse or ill treatment and in need of protection and care, the child is placed in alternative residential care, i.e. either foster care or an appropriate facility for children, such as Môreson. In most cases, placement is because of parents being unable or, in some cases, unfit to have custody of the children. Parents of children make no contribution towards the care of children, while Môreson is assigned the responsibility to care for them. Up to fourteen children are accommodated in 1 of 8 houses, where qualified child and youth care workers attend to their basic daily needs. They attend local schools in George and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, where some of them excel! A therapeutic environment is created by Môreson’s registered social workers, within which children attend individual and group therapy sessions to address and deal with the trauma and emotional neglect they have suffered. Meanwhile, the external social workers work with the parents or family of the children to improve the environment from which the child was removed. The goal is to reintegrate the child back into a caring and supportive home with parents, relatives or foster parents. Môreson strive to provide all the needs of the children - shelter, nourishment, clothing, health and hygiene, education opportunities, sport and recreation, life skills, together with the rendering of social services. The Independent Living Program aims to equip and provide 18-year-olds who finish school with the knowledge, skills and, if possible, a learnership at an employer close to their family. This will hopefully ensure that they can live on their own and contribute to society in a positive manner.

 Our mission is…

…to empower and develop children by focusing on their strengths and abilities. To provide them with opportunities within the least restricted and most empowering circumstances in order to develop effectively and to be successfully reintroduced into the community.

Our vision is…

…the total care and development of children in an environment where they feel physically, emotionally and socially safe.
