TELL (Transplant Education for Living Legacies) is a patient-founded and led South African non-profit organisation making organ and tissue donation education human, hopeful, and easier to talk about. Started by transplant recipients, TELL exists because in South Africa, too many life-changing conversations still aren’t happening. TELL works with communities, healthcare professionals, and patients to turn complex medical information into clear, relatable education that empowers informed decisions and honest family conversations. In a country with low consent rates and long transplant waiting times, TELL focuses on breaking down myths, tackling awkward questions, and building confidence — without fear, pressure, or jargon. Led by people who’ve lived the transplant journey from every angle, TELL turns real-world experience into education that’s accurate, compassionate, and refreshingly human (with a little humour, too). TELL brings education to life through engaging programmes such as the Make It Known tattoo campaign (because sometimes ink starts important conversations), Orgamites, a playful education programme teaching children about their organs, healthy habits, and kindness, and awareness-driven initiatives like Ride for TELL and Run for TELL, where athletes quite literally move the message forward.
