Who We Are

Humanity Pursuit NPO (HP NPO) is a registered South African non-profit organisation headquartered in Mabopane, City of Tshwane. We exist at the intersection of environmental justice, youth empowerment, and community development, working across the Tshwane Region 1 communities of Mabopane, Soshanguve, and surrounding areas.   HP NPO is not a distant institution. We are neighbours, volunteers, and community members who believe that sustainable change is built from the ground up. Our programmes span environmental education in schools, illegal dumping clean-ups, invasive alien plant removal, e-waste collection and recycling, water conservation awareness, and the mobilisation of youth volunteers who become agents of lasting change in their own communities. We partner with government departments, international bodies, academic institutions, and the private sector, but our accountability remains first and always to the communities we serve.

Our Vision

We envision communities where clean environments are not a privilege but a standard, where young people are equipped with the knowledge, agency, and institutional support to lead environmental transitions, and where every household understands its connection to the water, land, and ecosystems that sustain life.   HP NPO sees local action as the engine of national change. By anchoring sustainable practices in the daily rhythms of township life, the schools, the streams, the streets, the churches and community halls, we are building an environmental movement that is African in its roots and global in its reach.

Our Story

From E-Waste to a Movement HP NPO's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and radical community commitment.

The Beginning

Tiny Tau E-Waste Management

The organisation's roots lie in Tiny Tau E-Waste Management, a private enterprise founded by Mrs. Tiny Mmapula Taukobong in Mabopane. Operating in the under-served e-waste sector, the business collected and responsibly processed electronic waste from households and businesses in the Tshwane region — addressing a growing environmental crisis largely invisible to formal waste management systems.

The Pivot

Post-COVID Reinvention

Like many small enterprises, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted Tiny Tau E-Waste Management's operations significantly. Faced with this challenge, the founder made a defining choice: rather than simply rebuilding a private business, she would redirect her expertise and energy toward the broader community. The crisis became the catalyst for a deeper calling.

2024

Humanity Pursuit NPO is Registered

In 2024, Humanity Pursuit NPO was formally established and registered, with NPO Registration No. 279-219 and PBO No. 930074430. What began as a personal mission expanded into an organisational one — with six defined programme areas, a growing network of institutional partners, and a clear mandate to serve the environmental and social needs of Tshwane's most underserved communities.

2025 – 2026

Growth, Partnerships & Impact

HP NPO's programme footprint expanded rapidly. Landmark activities included the BLISS 4-in-1 Sustainability Awareness Event (March 2026) at Sun Valley Community Hall; environmental education programmes for learners with Special Educational Needs at Reinotswe Special School; the launch of the Friends of Mabopane Streams initiative targeting invasive alien plant removal from stream corridors feeding Morula Dam; co-hosted World Environment Day celebrations at SOSHAD Centre with partners including DWS, SANBI, and the City of Tshwane; and the development of a Community Food Garden programme anchored at Ark of God Family Church.

June 2026

UN-Supported Youth Volunteerism Programme

HP NPO co-convened a 2-day Youth Volunteerism Programme in partnership with SAVWA, CCIVS, and the United Nations — including a community clean-up in Ward 29, Block NN, Soshanguve, and a dialogue session at the UN Regional Office in Pretoria. This milestone affirmed HP NPO's standing as a recognised civil society actor on the international stage, while remaining rooted in the ward-level work that defines its character.

July 2026

Food Garden Launch

Nelson Mandela International Day calls on citizens to dedicate 67 minutes of service to their communities in honour of Madiba's 67 years of public service. Humanity Pursuit NPO embraces this spirit year-round; however, on 17 July 2026, we will give it tangible, lasting expression by breaking ground on a community food garden that will serve the residents of Sun Valley, Block S, Mabopane beyond the single day of action. Food insecurity remains a pressing challenge in our community. A functional food garden will:

• Provide fresh produce to households and vulnerable individuals in the immediate area.
• Create a platform for practical skills development in urban agriculture.
• Contribute to environmental sustainability through green space creation.
• Foster community ownership, pride, and volunteerism.

HP NPO's work is organised across six interconnected programme areas, each responding to a documented community need and contributing to a holistic vision of environmental and social wellbeing.

E-Waste Collection, Recycling & Community Empowerment

Responsible collection and processing of electronic waste, paired with community education on safe disposal and the economic opportunities within the circular economy.

Illegal Dumping Awareness & Clean-Up Campaigns

Ward-level clean-up operations and sustained behaviour-change campaigns that restore dignity to public spaces and reduce environmental health risks.

Invasive Alien Plant & Aquatic Weed Removal

Ecological restoration along Mabopane's stream corridors through the Friends of Mabopane Streams initiative, protecting water sources and native biodiversity.

Water Conservation

Community education on water stewardship, supporting national conservation goals and equipping households with practical tools to protect South Africa's most critical resource.

Sustainability Education in Schools & Communities

Curriculum-linked and community-based environmental education programmes, including inclusive programming for learners with Special Educational Needs.

Youth & Community Environmental Volunteer Mobilisation

Structured volunteerism programmes that build civic identity, environmental literacy, and leadership skills in young people across Tshwane's townships.

The Founder

Mrs. Tiny Mmapula Taukobong

CEO, Founder, and the driving force behind Humanity Pursuit NPO. Tiny Taukobong is a community leader, environmental activist, and social entrepreneur from Mabopane, Tshwane. Her work spans the full arc of civic life, from grassroots clean-up campaigns to boardroom partnership proposals, from directing community event programmes to submitting formal service delivery complaints on behalf of informal settlement residents who have waited a decade for basic municipal services. A multilingual communicator fluent in English, Afrikaans, Sesotho/Setswana, isiNdebele, and other South African languages, she is as comfortable addressing United Nations partners as she is organising ward-level volunteers. As a professional Master of Ceremonies and Programme Director, she brings both institutional credibility and a deeply personal commitment to every platform she occupies. She is the former Mrs. Township South Africa 2025, a title she used not as an end in itself, but as a platform for community empowerment and visibility for the environmental work that defines her life's mission. In 2026, she was nominated for the prestigious Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize, an international recognition of leaders who demonstrate new ways of thinking about and acting in the world. Tiny is also a member of Ark of God Family Church in Mabopane, where the values of service, stewardship, and community are lived daily, values that flow directly into the culture of HP NPO.
