Hesed Africa Foundation is a South African public benefit organisation focused on practical, community-level impact that improves livelihoods and expands economic opportunity for youth. Our work sits at the intersection of social development, climate resilience, and enterprise creation. We design initiatives that reduce everyday pressures on households while creating pathways into income and small business for young people.
One of our flagship programmes is AquaSave, a water security and green economy initiative responding to South Africa’s water scarcity and rising climate pressures.
AquaSave is built on a simple principle: reducing water waste strengthens communities and creates economic opportunity.
It integrates three core components:
We install practical water-efficiency devices in households and facilities such as schools and clinics. These upgrades reduce water consumption while maintaining comfort and functionality, lowering household costs and easing pressure on municipal systems.
In water-stressed areas, we work with municipalities and community organisations to strengthen local water resilience through targeted access and support interventions aligned with local priorities.
We train local youth as water-efficiency installers and service providers. This includes practical installation skills, basic auditing, professionalism, and entrepreneurship fundamentals, enabling graduates to earn income through retrofit projects or build small enterprises in the green economy.
AquaSave is rolled out through:
This creates a self-reinforcing model: retrofits generate demand, trained youth supply the service, and communities benefit from reduced costs and improved water security.
AquaSave delivers multi-layered impact:
Water efficiency becomes more than a technical intervention. It becomes a tool for economic participation, climate adaptation, and local empowerment.
AquaSave positions water conservation as both a climate solution and a job creation engine. By linking water security with youth-led green enterprise, Hesed Africa Foundation is building a model that is scalable, measurable, and rooted in community ownership.
