Essentially Edenvale: Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things for Their Town

Essentially Edenvale is a passionate, volunteer-powered non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting, beautifying, and preserving the town of Edenvale. Registered as a Non-Profit Company (NPC Reg: 2023/882791/08), the organisation exists for one simple reason: to turn community pride into visible, lasting action. From cleaning parks and repairing potholes to restoring neglected spaces and empowering local youth, Essentially Edenvale is helping transform Edenvale into a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant place to live.

Who We Are

Founded in 2022 by a group of concerned residents, Essentially Edenvale was born from the belief that small, consistent acts can create big change. What started with paint brushes, refuse bags, and determination has grown into a coordinated grassroots movement restoring dignity, functionality, and pride across the town.</ The organisation works hand-in-hand with residents, volunteers, local businesses, and partner organisations, while also collaborating closely with the municipality, ward councillors, depots, community safety structures, EMPD, and SAPS to ensure sustainable development and long-term impact. At its core, Essentially Edenvale believes that thriving communities attract people and businesses who care — and who invest back into the places they call home.

Our Team & Leadership

Essentially Edenvale is powered by a committed team of five full-time workers, including three participants from the YES 4 Youth Programme, two of whom have since been permanently employed — a reflection of the organisation’s commitment to youth development and job creation. The organisation is led by Founder and Director Lisa Atkins, who manages operations full-time on the ground. From transporting and supervising teams to coordinating projects and securing municipal approvals, Lisa is deeply involved in every aspect of the work. She also serves on several community and civic committees, including:

• Local Drug Action Committee
• Edenvale Child Welfare
• JP Bezuidenhout Park Sportsground Committee
• Ekurhuleni Ward 18 Committee (Environmental, Safety, Women & Children portfolios)

In addition, Lisa serves as a Ward 18 Committee Member for Infrastructure, leveraging relationships with Roads and Waste departments to unlock vital support for community projects.

Our Work in Action

Over the past three years, Essentially Edenvale has delivered visible, town-wide impact through hands-on action and partnerships, including:

• Over 25 island beautification projects maintained through community partnerships
• Restoration and upliftment of Horwoods Farm
• The Poster Busting Campaign, removing illegal signage from robots and public spaces
• Weekly clean-ups across Edenvale
• Grass cutting, park rejuvenation, and field clearance
• Kerbing and hundreds of pothole repairs
• Tree trimming and environmental maintenance
• Socio-economic outreach initiatives
• Installation of new palisade fencing at Eastleigh Spruit
• Molly Vincent Bird Sanctuary restoration, completed in partnership with a local Edenvale business
• De Klerkshof Park Refresh, earning praise from a resident of 65 years for restoring pride in the area
• EduClean Campaign, conducted with the Edenvale Community Police Forum to align clean-ups with school initiatives and discourage vandalism
• Ongoing collaborations with organisations like Thandanani, helping restore order around taxi ranks and high-traffic public spaces

The results are tangible and visible — cleaner streets, safer parks, restored green spaces, and a renewed sense of community ownership throughout Edenvale.

Projects like the Bottle Cap Heart Project reflect Essentially Edenvale’s commitment to sustainability while offering meaningful opportunities for corporate involvement and visible community branding — proving that doing good can also bring people together in creative, impactful ways.
