Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) 4 PAWS

Started in 2007 by a few concerned residents in Great Brak River to combat the suffering of stray dogs in the village. The local Vets – Croft Animal Hospital – identified a few animal lovers who were prepared to give of their time and services to organise a free sterilisation day for pets from disadvantaged homes.   The Garden Route SPCA offered to support our venture by offering their services to collect and prepare the animals – cleaning , dipping, and inoculating them before delivering them to Great Brak.   The burden of financing and sponsoring what is required for these days, is how CAWS 4 PAWS was born. We applied to the Department of Social Development for registration as a NPO (Non-Profit Organisation) and this was granted in April 2013.   To date we have sterilised thousands of cats and dogs in Great Brak and surrounding areas. We plan to continue doing this on an annual basis and to expand our services to include regular dipping and an education drive in schools as well.   To achieve our aims we rely entirely on the generosity of individuals, businesses and companies. We also appeal to animal lovers to remember us as a possible beneficiary in their wills.
