Wildlife Rescue is a registered Non-Profit Company (NPC 2024/569379/08) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930086044). We are a dedicated team of volunteers operating with permission from Ezemvelo Wildlife KZN, allowing us to handle both ordinary species and TOPS (Threatened or Protected Species).
As permitted first responders, we assess, stabilise, transport, and facilitate the treatment and release of injured or distressed wildlife, aiming to return animals to their natural environment as soon as possible. When injuries are not life-threatening, animals are treated by a veterinarian and released into their own environment or social group to heal, thereby minimising disruption to their natural lives. Where necessary, we will transport animals to specialised rehabilitation facilities.
All petrol, food, veterinary bills, and medication costs are covered by Wildlife Rescue. As part of our commitment to serving the community, we do not charge call-out fees to members of the public, and instead rely on fundraising efforts to sustain our work. We aim to educate and foster a community that values and takes pride in its wildlife. This is done through social media, participation in markets and community events, educational presentations at schools and estates, and initiatives such as road signage to alert the public to wildlife crossings.
Our Future Plans:Â We are in the process of establishing a dedicated wildlife holding facility in Ballito, which will include appropriate species-specific enclosures and essential medical supplies. This facility will ensure that rescued animals receive immediate, professional care and stabilisation under the supervision of an accredited wildlife rehabilitator before being released or transferred for further treatment or rehabilitation if necessary.
In addition to setting up the holding facility, we are seeking sponsorship for a dedicated vehicle or funds to purchase one. This will enable us to operate a fully equipped "wildlife ambulance", as we are first on the scene to treat and stabilise injured animals.
These steps will greatly strengthen our ability to save more wild lives, and we invite donors and sponsors to partner with us in making this vision a reality.
