Current Needs / Wish List
To support the Kungwini Welfare Organisation (KWO) and the Kungwini Early Learning Centre, here is a categorised list of immediate needs. These items and services directly impact the 160+ disabled residents at the Paul Jungnickel Home and the 66 young learners in the community programs.
1. Essential Daily Needs (The Paul Jungnickel Home)
These items are constantly in demand for the 24/7 care of adults with severe to profound disabilities.
Toiletry Kits: Shampoo, conditioner, soap, disposable razors, roll-on deodorant, toothpaste, washcloths, and towels.
Non-Perishable Food: Canned goods, maize meal, rice, pasta, tea, coffee, and long-life milk.
Adult Care: Nappies (various sizes), wet wipes, and barrier creams.
Clothing: Jackets, jerseys, warm pants, and shoes (donations for "Adopt a Resident" initiatives).
2. Early Learning Centre & Community Needs
Supporting children aged 3 months to 6 years from surrounding informal settlements.
Nutritional Support: Cereal, porridge, fruit, and snacks for daily meals.
Educational Supplies: Stationery (crayons, paper, glue), educational toys, puzzles, and children’s books.
Comfort Items: Blankets, small mattresses, and warm clothing for toddlers.
Facility Needs: Portable lights (for load-shedding), heaters for classrooms, and play equipment.
3. Maintenance & Facility Supplies
With buildings dating back to 1983, the infrastructure requires ongoing upkeep.
Building Materials: Paint (for walls, window frames, and skirting), plumbing needs and electrical needs
Garden Care: Heavy-duty grass cutters/mowers for the veld areas and tools for vegetable garden maintenance.
General Cleaning: Bulk detergents, mops, brooms, and black refuse bags.
4. Volunteer Opportunities (Your Time & Talent)
Volunteers are the "heart" of Kungwini and help bridge the gap in human resources.
Recreational Support: Spending quality time with residents, reading to them, or helping facilitate arts and crafts in the Protective Workshop.
Professional Services: Pro-bono assistance in social work, nursing, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy.
Event Support: Assisting with the annual Nickel Christmas Market (logistics, decor, exhibitors or security).
Digital/Admin Skills: Help with marketing, social media, or data entry to increase the organisation's visibility.
Maintenance Support: Groups or individuals who can assist with painting, plumbing, electrical or basic repairs
