About The Helpers
The Helpers is South Africa’s new centralised, user-driven charity directory. A platform built to connect people who need help with the organisations who can provide it and to connect those who want to help with the causes that matter most to them.
Powered by the Good Things Guy team, The Helpers was born from something very real.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our inboxes were flooded, not just with stories of hope and resilience, but with hundreds (and then thousands) of messages from South Africans who needed help. Urgently.
From people needing food parcels and shelter, to families desperate to escape abuse, to animal lovers trying to rescue strays with nowhere else to turn the need was (and still is) overwhelming. So our incredible editor, Tyler Leigh Vivier, quietly created a “Charity” section on Good Things Guy to list trusted organisations people could turn to.
That section grew.
And grew.
And grew.
And so did the need.
So in 2025, in honour of Good Things Guy’s 10-year birthday, we decided to build something bigger. Something better. Something that could genuinely change lives.
The Helpers is that something.
It’s a searchable, growing directory of charitable organisations across South Africa. Whether you’re looking for help near you – in places like like Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Joburg, or anywhere else – or want to support causes that matter to you (like gender-based violence, education, cancer support, animal welfare, food security or shelter), this platform makes that possible.
It’s for individuals who need help.
It’s for people who want to help.
And it’s for South Africans who still believe in the power of showing up for each other.

We’re a small team, the same Good Things Guy team who have been sharing South Africa’s good news stories for over a decade, but this platform is not about us. It’s about you, the helpers, the heroes, the healers and the warriors of hope.
