1000 Paws Walk for SPCAs

The 1000 Paws Walk is an annual fundraising initiative now in its 17th year, run largely by a steering committee of volunteers, which raises much-needed funds for the three SPCAs serving the animals and impoverished individuals of the KZN Midlands, namely the uMngeni-Howick, Mooi River & District, and the Pietermaritzburg SPCAs. Together, these organisations provide essential animal welfare services to communities across the region, often in challenging socio-economic conditions. This multi-faceted project includes:

• The actual “Walks” event, taking place on Sunday, 7 June 2026 at Highgate Wine Estate near Howick;
• A schools’ collection-tin competition, which encourages awareness of animal welfare and fosters compassion and responsibility among the youth; and
• A raffle, which consistently generates strong support through the donation of high-value prizes.

The funds raised by the 1000 Paws Walk programme are shared equally between these three SPCA branches.
